How to set default app for some file type in windows 10

I want to set an node.js C:Program Filesnodejsnode.exe handler as a default action for opening .js files in Windows 10. So that "when i left-click them i can run them".
However when i right click an .js file and select in context menus Open with -> Choose another app -> Tick always use this app -> More apps -> Look for another app on this pc -> Browse to node.exe -> Click the app you want to use for that file it just opens once, but does not persist that setting - default is still "Windows Script Host"
If I open Windows Settings -> System -> Default apps -> Choose default apps by file type and assign it there - the desktop flashes for a second (like something has been updated, i guess maybe explorer.exe restarted?), and the setting resets back to "Windows Script Host"
What am i doing wrong and how to set that setting, so that when i left-click them i can run them? How could i assign them via registry editing regedit.exe or cmd.exe command line? Or where could i get error log to know what is wrong?
Definetely that is not supposed behaviour, but windows install is quite clean, and i dont know what could be wrong, and need some help, if you manage.
