Ubuntu 18.04 LTS hang before login

problem: screen keep flashing with the ubuntu mark and progressing curser (which loops). Occasionally it will start normal and successful.



a little background: Upgraded from ubuntu 16.04 two months ago and no problem. This problem occurred after recent software update. After the update, I used sudo apt autoremove, which some say might have removed something it should have not done so. But it also could be because of the update (some bugs maybe?)



log shows:
