Linux root user issue

0

I m working on a Linux Workstation as root. However if I try to copy files into a homedirectory of another user it says "permission denied".
Am I doing something wrong or is this a configuration problem and I m really missing permissions?

Cheers and thanks for reading!

  • What distro? What file system? Have you checked if selinux is active?

  • thanks for your answer , I dont know what distro and what file system. Neither do I know what selinux is. I'm a complete beginner to Linux and just started working here, my task is basically finding out why this problem exists. Can you give me a direction in regards of finding out what distro and filesystem I have?

  • You should not have root if you cant find thIs info. Google is your friend. You thrn need to establish if the home directory is a mount and what type.

  • I'm sorry. I m basically working as an intern right now and I have to find everything out on my own. I have literally zero knowledge about Linux :/ If you could point me in the right direction I would be super thankful :)
