Closed computer in middle of Ubuntu update, Ubuntu no longer runs, Unable to type

0

I was in the middle of downloading the c++ kernel for jupyter notebooks from github, when I closed my computer. I then opened VirtualBox and started running Ubuntu. This took longer than usual and resulted in this page:

first screen

I read on askubuntu that I should click Ctrl+Alt+F2 to login and then sudo-apt get update. Then I should sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, and finally sudo reboot.

However, when I click Ctrl+Alt+F2 and try typing, it glitches between this screen (below) and the previous screen (shown above), making it impossible to type anything. What can I do?

second screen

  • You may want to disable hardware acceleration in VirtualBox while doing that.
