How to change DNS server in Ubuntu 16.04 server? (designated method does not work)
I need to change the DNS settings in an Ubuntu 16.04 LTS server.
I edited the /etc/network/interfaces
file (as per this answer) and changed the dns-nameservers
to the correct DNS server addresses.
Then I ran sudo ifdown eth0 && sudo ifup eth0
(the network interface in my config is also called eth0
) and even rebooted the entire machine.
However domains are still being resolved through the old DNS server. If I run nslookup
and enter server
in there, it still shows the old DNS servers as default. Not the ones I configured before the reboot.
How do I permanently change my server's DNS settings?
