screen blanking without turning screen off

0

I recently swapped my raspberry pi with an intel nuc for one project PC. The PC is connected tv screen.

On the raspberry I was able to edit /boot/config.txt with one comment hdmi_blanking=0 -> HDMI Output will blank instead of being disabled reference here

with this configuration I was able to blank the tv screen in total with

xset -display :0 set s activate

or even with

xset -display 0 dpms force off

Problem:

when I now run the xset -display 0 dpms force off the hdmi port gets disabled and the tv screen show the nag "signal lost on HDMI1" ...
So my workaround at the moment is:

xsetroot -display :0 -solid '#000000'

xset -display :0 s noblank

xset -display :0 s activate

are these comments. when i leave the setting s to blank the signal would be lost again thats why i have it set to noblank.

The result is that the screen goes black but still has the backlight on. On RPI with the dpms force off and the config file adapted it would turn the backlight off which is important for my situation.

does anyone have an idea? I am running Ubuntu 18.04 with kernel 4.19.9

  • ...so you effectively want to output and image that consists of only black pixels?

  • to be precise i want to achive this: HDMI Output will blank instead of being disabled - quote: "The hdmi_blanking command allows you to choose whether the HDMI output should be switched off when DPMS is triggered. This is to mimic the behaviour of other computers. After a specific amount of time, the display will become blank and go into low-power/standby mode due to receiving no signal."
