Leaving academia for the IT industry
I worked in a university for 5.5 years as a systems analyst for their e-learning platform while working as a lecturer as well. I had a full teaching load.
I got a new job in an institute where I am delivering some lectures while managing their ERP project.
I thought about getting a PhD for sometime but I know that by joining a doctoral program means going back to living like a student and struggling for 4-5 years after which the future will still be kind of uncertain.
Anyways I want to switch into the corporate sector as an IT Business Analyst because I have (and am still doing) a lot of work in requirements gathering, project management and managing the development team and trying to keep them organized.
Applying through job portals such as Linkedin doesn't seem to bring up anything. I thought I'd increase my value in some way so I completed my ITIL certification and am currently working on my PRINCE2 certification.
tl;dr - I just want to get out of working in an academic environment where it can gets too monotonous. I've been looking for jobs in the corporate jobs and applying for them, contacting recruiters, using my network (which is pretty limited right now) but no luck yet. Any tips ?
