(REQUEST) Literature on how to Adapt or Slightly Modify 6-Sigma Practices?

0

I am studying to become a data scientist, and I am also interested in seriously adopting to the 6-Sigma mindset.

However, does literature exist on how to modify the process? Specifically, I care about two things:

1) Figuring out how to apply machine learning and other more advanced and rigorous statistical methods during the 6-Sigma analysis phase than currently exist in the standardized toolkit. These would be used in addition to the standardized toolkit with the standardized toolkit always used first.

2) Optimizing how much variance your Company needs, even if it means increasing variance. Rather than just aim for 3.4 defects per million units, a business may desire more variance in its processes. But how much variance does the company need to optimally grow and expand? How do you design experiments to determine the optimized level of variance for your corporation while simultaneous reducing waste variance?

I could imagine a business transitioning back and forth between two phases: A) Controlled increase of variance to encourage innovation and B) Periodic elimination of variance to regularly standardize products, benchmark growth and refresh business's potential for growth.
