No window manager on Ubuntu 18.04 with GUI on server
I am using a cloud server and installed Ubuntu 18.04 (so the server does not have any graphics card or monitor).
I used the following to install the GUI stuff:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
Then I installed a virtual dummy graphics card and configured it properly:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-dummy
Then I installed TeamViewer, restarted my server, and initialized a new TeamViewer session. Please note: I explicitly do not want to use VNC.
What happens then: I can login, but after having logged in there is not a window manager or an XTerm. I am wondering what else I have to do to have a normal Ubuntu desktop environment?
Here are images that describe my problem. When I login using TeamViewer I can see this:
After login, no window manager is loaded and no XTerm is available:
server xorg login desktop-environments
