Wipe disk free space in Synology DS1315+

0

I have a Synology DS1315+ running the latest (non-beta) DSM software.

In addition to my own files, I used to store sensitive information from my employer that is under NDA (e.g. project source code - this is allowed as part of my employment agreement), however I have since stopped using it for that purpose.

In accordance with my company's rules for storing sensitive information I need to securely erase that information from the NAS, but I don't want to have to move or remove my own files first - mainly because I don't have another location big enough to store them all.

To that end, can this be done on the DS1315+ at all?

I cannot see any "Secure Erase Files" or "Wipe free space" option in DSM, only the "Secure Erase Disk" option, which isn't what I want. I'm wondering if I should login to the underlying Linux OS that powers DSM and use that to run commands to erase the disk free space.

How about file shredding software? Perhaps laborious but touted as being effective in utterly destroying all traces of files.
