python subprocess started tcpdump when killed its status becomes defunct

0

When calling subprocess.Popen("tcpdump ...", shell=True) in python,
it seems to call /bin/sh -c tcpdump .... But when kill -9 [pid], I can see this tcpdump becomes:
tcpdump has defunct status
I compared that with shell started tcpdump command, which does not have defunct status. what is the reason for killing results difference? And is this related with python subprocess.Popen usage? And does defunct harmful?
