can't unpin an item from the pinned list in google chrome

When I click on the Google Chrome tab on the task bar at the bottom of my desktop I get a list of "pinned items". When I pick an item on the list it gives me the option to unpin it from the list which doesn't work.
When I try and open the item it says there is a problem with the shortcut so unable to open it as its been renamed or removed etc and then it asks me if I want to remove it from the list..when I select "ok" it still doesn't remove it from the list???
Can anyone help?
