Trying to access NTFS partition, getting I/O error

0

I dual boot ubuntu and Windows 8. Yesterday, after greeting me with a BSoD after waking, Windows committed suicide. It boots into a disk repair process and reboots, stuck in an endless loop. A recovery thumb drive proved useless, and running chkdsk from the recovery drive yielded an ever-increasing ETA that at one point marked over 500 hours.

Ubuntu, running from the very same hard drive, is working perfectly. The Windows recovery drive can access (most) files in the Windows partition through cmd, but ubuntu for some reason refuses to access. It mounts the partition, but gives me an I/O error when I try to see the files and shows me nothing.

ntfsfix fails to do anything, only saying that the partition is too corrupted and that I 'should run chkdsk'.

I just want a way to access the files in the partition through ubuntu so that I can back up my files.

Thanks in advance!
