Wireless Mouse Jerking

I bought a Microsoft wireless mobile mouse 3500 recently.
At first I used it on my old notebook PC (Asus K43SV, Intel i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz, 4.00GB RAM, Hitachi HD, 64-bit Win 7 Home Premium, bought in Jan 2011). The cursor jerked erratically when the mouse was moved.
Knowing that the notebook had become noticeably slow I moved the Microsoft mouse to use it on my desktop (Intel i5-4690 CPU @ 3.50GHz, 8.00GB RAM, 128GB SanDisk SSD, 64-bit Win 7 Pro) and moved the old Logitech M215 to the laptop.
Everything is fine with the Logitech M215 on the laptop. The Microsoft 3500 still jerks on the desktop but to a lesser extent. I changed the desktop theme from Aero to Win 7 Basic. It improved but still not as smooth as I would expect.
On both the laptop and the desktop, I had installed for the mouse the Microsoft driver 64bit ENG_10.4.0 downloaded from Microsoft site.
What else can I do?
Would it help if I set the mouse operation to higher priority? How do I do that?

There's a possibility that the mouse is defective, especially since it misbehaves on two different computers. If it's still within the return period, try exchanging it. BTW, priority won't make a difference.

RF interference? I recently bought a Genius wireless mouse; the USB receiver is inserted in a front port of the PC about 75 cm away from the mouse. I experienced some jerking of the pointer and occasional failure to respond to clicks until I moved my switched-on cell phone to the other side of the keyboard.
