Midi keyboard under ubuntu

I have a ubuntu 18.04. I already installed qjacktl and qsynth. I can run them, but literally no sound at all. the midi keyboard is connected, the soundfonts have been loaded. No sound at all. Pls help.

Can you give more details? Do the programs register the key presses? Have you tried different sound fonts?

Dear Steve! Thx 4 your reaction. I'm a bit newbie to the ubuntu world, so therefore my answer (which is a question) might sound totally dumb, but how can one tell that the program register the key presses? But i think not. I see no change whatsoever, though i opened hte output peak level meter and it's totally dark.
