Merge 4 audio input channels into two on macOS

1

I am trying to merge audio from two input sources (soundflower and a microphone), each with 2 channels, into a single 2 channel input sources for free. I've though of doing this 2 ways:

  • Multi-Input Source
A new input source is created, which joins the 4 channels into 2. Apps I've tried for this:

    • RA Loopback
This works, but it reduces audio quality after 20 mins, and the output is too quiet.

    • Audio MIDI Setup (Aggregate Device)
This doesn't join the channels, so any 2ch app will get audio from only one source

  • Play input into output
Because one of the sources I am trying to merge is soundflower, I could also play the audio from the mic input into the soundflower output.

    • RA Loopback
      Same complaints as above

    • RA Audio Hijack
Reduces audio quality after 10 mins, also have to keep the app open at all times

    • AU Labs
This is my current solution, but I'd rather not have to keep the app open at all times

EDIT: Just to make it clear, I'd rather use an app that runs in the background/menubar.

  • That gives me no new info; I've already explained the problem with an aggregate device anyways.
