Restart works but Power Down hangs and saturates network
I installed Ubuntu previously on a I7 box with no issues. However, installation on an I5 box hangs during power down and crashed my network. I assume with excessive packet traffic during shutdown. Interacts normally on network during normal operation. It restarts fine! It is a desktop. I verified that automatic suspend is off as indicated by previous question threads. Another difference with this install is that I setup a second account. It did not have a password and got one this morning. Finally, if i push power off it does not respond after initiating power down at user interface, so I have to resort to pulling the plug. Plug reinsertion causes machine to power up rather than stay off.
