Prevent Windows 10 from decreasing microphone levels

0

Sound>Recording>[my mic properties]>levels

I have the level set to 100 (the reason I do this is because at anything lower than 100 many of the programs I use highjack the mic level and directly manipulate it to 100) unfortunately when I cough (or make any overly loud noise) into the mic it will automatically reduce the level by a certain amount (usually 94, 88, 81) and keep it there. This does not seem to happen if I have the level at 50 or so but as stated above I cannot do this as it will be set to 100 and left there by other programs I use.

Things to note

  • All exclusive mode options are off so:

  • "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" is DISABLED (yes those programs I use adjust the mic level to 100 anyways even with this off, no those programs do not have an option to disable their mic control)

  • the mic adjustment happens in a program or on the desktop with nothing open

How do I prevent windows from reducing the mic level? I assume it's doing it when the audio coming in is too loud as a "helpful feature" but it's causing a lot of problems for me and I cannot find any options to prevent it, or to "lock" the mic level.
