USB WiFi not active after boot but activates after reinserting

I have a usb wifi adapter that doesn't activate after boot (on Ubuntu 18.04); however, if I take it out and reinsert it, it activates and works as expected.



The divice is a TP-LINK TL-WN725N and is identified as



$lsusb
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0bda:8179 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8188EUS 802.11n


Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.



Edit I should probably add sometimes my wireless mouse doesn't wake after waking my desktop from sleep, but that's only about 1-in-20 times. Again, just reinsert to get it working again.
