Link prefetching / prerendering of links - What exactly is it and when does it happen?
After having read a tiny bit about link prefetching, i am still a bit clueless about what exactly it is, and when it is implemented. One instance i have read about, is when using google search, the "most likely to be clicked" links will be prefetched in order to speed up the process afterwards.
But, how is this feature implemented in other contexts?
For example when using reddit, a lot of comments contain links. Due to the "link text" option however, most of them don't show the site they will redirect you to, unless you hover over them with your mouse.
Are those links now being prefetched or prerendered by my browser? Are they only then being prefetched, when i hover over them with the mouse, or as soon as they are viewable within the comments section?
