Compression stored files

0

I was compressing 130 GB files using Winrar and i noticed that my free space on C: drive is decreasing, so i guessed that winrar is temporarily storing the stuff that being compressed, i waited like 4-5 hours and then electricity cut-off and when i turned my laptop on i found the free space still low.. anybody know where can i find these files to delete them to free up the useless taken space?
thanks in advance

  • You can use a utility called WinDirStat in order to get a visual mapping of what is taking up hard drive space. WinRAR is designed for building archives so it makes a compressed archive of all the files you ask it to compress. It stores this wherever you tell it to. If that is on your C drive, it will take up space on the C drive. More space than you were using initially.

  • No, i was compressing it on another drive but i don't know why C free space was decreasing

  • As I said, use WinDirStat (available here) to see what is happening.

  • Run WinDirStat as Administrator in order to for the program to have visibility into denied directories. I've had C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution run away into dozens of GB and was able to find it using WinDirStat run as Administrator

  • Have a look in your %TEMP% directory.
