12.04 wireless dell atheros
@Joe - your rfkill results say you have a hard-lock - this means there is a physical switch (keyboard Fn type switch, bios, or slider switch) that is turned off. Can you check this please and report back?

I did some googling on your wifi card, the Broadcom 4365. I found this answer, maybe it will offer some hints: askubuntu.com/questions/178352/… Good luck, - R.R.G

To enable wireless, I went to System Settings > Network > Wireless and turned it ON. But this is on 12.04.

@Joe - your rfkill results say you have a hard-lock - this means there is a physical switch (keyboard Fn type switch, bios, or slider switch) that is turned off. Can you check this please and report back?

Try this:
sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
sudo apt-get remove bcmwl-kernel-source
It worked for me on a Dell Inspiron 6400 with the Broadcom wifi chip.
How do I know what chip am using right now

Edit the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
and in the end type :
blacklist acer_wmi
Reboot and you’re done. If you’re doing it entirely from the GUI, then editing the file could be done by pressing ALT+F2 (this would open a “Run” window) and typing there gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
then add this line below
rmmod dell_laptop
I am not using acer, should I still blacklist it

@Joe - your rfkill results say you have a hard-lock - this means there is a physical switch (keyboard Fn type switch, bios, or slider switch) that is turned off. Can you check this please and report back?
