X-Window with Ubuntu over VNC

I have a remote Linux Server with Ubuntu installed. When I access this server through VNC, the X-Window appears but I do not see the applications from that server appear? In other words, a GUI populated. This server is my gateway server to the other server instances in the IBM cloud.

Any thoughts?

  • Maybe it has the "server" release, which doen't have the GUI tools installed.

  • Welcome to Ask Ubuntu! Could you post a screenshot? What does it mean “GUI populated”? Does your server run any desktop environment? @waltinator I doubt an Ubuntu Server without GUI would accept the VNC connection. The tightvncserver package depends on X11 libraries.

  • The tightvncserver depends on packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/tightvncserver so those packages are installed. Could it be a PATH problem? Which applications? If it's a "gateway server to ... IBM cloud" you should ask IBM?
