I'm desperate! I can't get the internet to work at all, the wired network icon didn't show before and after installation of 18.10, and this was after I had to get a new motherboard installed. I can't "ping" in the terminal, I can't do anything with anything at all with Ubuntu, yet somehow I can access the internet on Windows with the same computer. I'm giving you all the information I can possibly can. Please send help.

Welcome to Ask Ubuntu. You haven't given us much to work with, I'd suggest lshw -c network (list hardware - class networking only) which you can copy & paste the command and output, adding it to your question. If networking device(s) are recognized adding ip link; ip addr will also show us any networking info obtained.
