TEXT/TXt file corrupyed or unreadable
Like so many people I have seen post about this, I can't remember my Bitlocker password. I set it up 8 years ago and haven't needed to access an old drive in a long time. I came across it the other day, and before I throw it out I'd like to make sure it doesn't have items on it I needed as at one point it was an old desktop hard drive I had, and removed when I bought a new PC.
I had saved the recovery password to a thumb drive. And in my infinite wisdom, saved stuff over it at some point. I was able to recover the file, kind of. It shows a TXT and TEXT file, and both have the right file name which shows the right Key ID on it. But when I open them, it looks like a bunch of nonsense. Here is what appears:
The files are only 1KB. Is there any way for me to repair this or decipher it into my recovery key? I normally wouldn't care, but from what I have read, this TEXT file is my only hope of ever unlocking that drive. I recovered this file, but obviously not a full recovery. I am wondering if it was damaged when I saved over it, and maybe it can never be repaired or fully recovered. I have the thumb drive still.
