Avoid DNS query for Domain Controller on setting Domain Name

Whenever I set a domain name I see a DNS query for the LDAP Domain Controller in my network traffic.
It is of the type _ldap._tcp.DOMAIN_NAME
Is there any registry setting, group policy, service disabling or anything I can do to stop this query?
I can uninstall or remove any features if that is required.

Are you talking about joining the machine into an AD domain, or do you just mean configuring a DNS suffix on a non-AD machine?
