Assigning value to words, then adding the words at the end of a row
So I'm trying to figure out how to assign a value to a word, and then put those words in a table, and sum the words at the end of a row.
Example:
Rarely = -3
Occasionally = -1
Often = +3
here's an example of the spreadsheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-UJdN0GHSX4CKZ1wWrPYmtLuT5APqJFBooYxfewL7uw/edit?usp=sharing
I'd like it to automatically calculate the "standing" based on the words (values) input in the columns
If you can explain how, or offer a better way to do this, I'd appreciate it a lot! Thanks

Have you thought about doing it the other way around? Put the scores in the table instead of words? Have you looked at VLOOKUP or CHOOSE?
