Can't Type Password in Virtual Terminal
If I change to a VT by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Fx or use sudo chvt
I am able to type my username however when I am prompted to enter my password it is as if enter is pressed immediately and I am unable to enter the password, this then cycles several times until the terminal is reset. On top of this I am on my laptop so I can't find a way of disabling the internal keyboard in the kernel; I can do it in X but this doesn't apply to the VT so I can't test if this is a hardware problem of some sort.
I had howdy
installed which allowed me to use my webcam to login with face recognition however I have since purged this in apt and the problem persists.
I will try and boot into a live CD later this evening but it doesn't match my current version, kernel, etc., so I'm not sure what good it will be. Please could anyone help me with what the next step to take would be?
Thank you very much

What kernel are you running (uname -r
)? there have been several recent reports similar to this - see for example Upgraded kernel to linux-image-4.18.0-14.15-generic 4.18.20, and discovered I can no longer log into a local console
