External hard disk is not accesible

I have recently installed Ubuntu 18.04. My external hard disk was working properly, but suddenly it is not accesible. It is showing an option of mounting but not opening. Please help. When I run the command sudo fdisk -l, it is showing the hdd as /dev/sdb1, but when I try to open it, it is not opening. When I am mounting sdb1, it is saying special device doesnot exist.
